| ABOUT
THE TOUR: |
|
We invite you to join us on our 14th
annual European Christmas Market
tour. Come and discover the
secrets of both the German Mosel
Valley and the French Alsace regions.
You’ll
begin your holiday journey along the
Mosel Valley with its historical half-timbered houses,
romantic corners and narrow streets,
which
form a picturesque background for the
festive German Christmas Markets.
Then on to the Alsace region,
with its scenic, landscaped
hills sprinkled with vineyards, old castles
and monasteries. This region is truly infused
with charm and wonder during the Christmas
season. It is said that the Christmas tree,
which is one of the oldest and most wide spread
Christmas traditions, originated in this region of France back in the Middle Ages. |

THE
ITINERARY: |
|
Tuesday, Nov 30 - Departure for Frankfurt:
Depart the Twin Cities via Detroit
to Frankfurt on Delta Airlines. In-flight service
Wednesday, Dec 1 - Cochem:
Early morning arrival in Frankfurt.
Upon clearing customs, you’ll meet your guide
Helmut and travel by coach to the Mosel Valley. Your
first stop will be in Limburg an der Lahn, a picturesque
town of half-timbered houses with a charming,
small Christmas Market. You’ll continue
on to Cochem where you’ll
spend two nights. There will be
time to rest and relax before the Welcome Dinner this evening. D
Thursday, Dec 2 - Cochem:
Following breakfast, Helmut
will offer a walking tour of Cochem, the Mosel Valley’s
most visited town. In addition to a spectacular Christmas
Market, Cochem Old Town has a quaint square
where you’ll find charming shops and restaurants.
A city highlight is the magnificent, 1,000- year-old
fairly tale-like Castle Reichsburg, which
is nestled amongst the vineyards
more than 100 meters above the River Mosel. B
Friday, Dec 3 - Mosel Valley:
Today we continue along the
Mosel to the famous, 700-year-old town of Bernkastel-Kues.
This medieval town of “vines and wines” has
a festive marketplace. In the center stands St.
Michael’s Fountain, which flows with wine during the
September wine festival. The half-timbered houses,
romantic corners and narrow streets form a picturesque background for the enchanting Christmas
Market. The morning walking tour will include the Renaissance
City Hall built in 1608, the church of St. Michael
and the ruins of the Castle of Landshut. From the
castle you’ll have panoramic views of the entire Rhineland and Mosel area. B
Saturday, Dec 4 - Trier:
This morning you’ll visit
Trier, Germany’s oldest
city. In this 1000-year-old-city, you’ll find
magnificent art treasures and unique architectural monuments. On the walking tour you will explore
Trier’s Roman roots dating back to its founding
in 16 B.C. under Emperor Augustus.
Trier contains the largest collection
of ancient Roman buildings outside of
Rome itself and all are concentrated in the pedestrian
area. You’ll see the Imperial Baths,
the Amphitheater and the massive
town gate Porta Nigra. The Christmas Market is located
on the medieval square next to
the cathedral. Late morning we’ll
cross the border into Luxembourg,
one of Europe’s smallest
countries. Here you’ll have time to wander through
the festive Christmas Market before returning to
Bernkastel in the late afternoon. B
Sunday, Dec 5 - Comar:
When you cross the border today,
you’ll be entering France. Enjoy the scenery
as you travel down the Alsace
wine road to the charming medieval
city of Comar. There will be a walking tour and
free time before checking in to our hotel in Truckheim. B
Monday, Dec 6 - Alsace:
Today you’ll explore the charming
villages of the Alsace, including Riquewihr and Kayserberg. B
Tuesday, Dec 7 - Stuttgart:
Leaving Alsace behind, you’ll
travel to Stuttgart, the home of Mercedes and Porsche.
Stuttgart’s Christmas Market is one of Europe’s
largest as well as one of Europe’s
oldest, dating back to 1692. After
lunch, we’ll continue
on to the ancient and famous Swabian
town of Tubingen. After checking
into the hotel, you’ll have time
to enjoy this quaint, university town before the farewell dinner
this evening. B D
Wednesday, Dec 8 - Return Home from Stuttgart:
Transfer to the Stuttgart airport for your return
flights to the Twin Cities. B
